National Bronze & Metals, Inc. Gets New Patent for the Production of NBM 995 (Stem Bronze)
New continuous casting method to produce "modified C99500 alloy" comparable to its wrought counterparts.

National Bronze & Metals, Inc. (NBM) has recently been approved for its patent on the continuous cast production methods of NBM 995 Stem Bronze. It is a totally lead free and low zinc alloy that will be used primarily for valve stems within iron body valves. This alloy was designed with the new lead free (0.25% max) criteria in mind, and competes head on with Green Dot™ and EnviroBrass™ in many demanding applications. The alloy bears comparable, if not superior mechanical properties and machinability ratings than wrought silicon bronzes such as C66100, C65500, and C69430.
"The benefits of this alloy is that it is continuously cast.", says Norman Lazarus, Senior Vice-President and co-inventor of the material, "We've eliminated the additional steps of extruding and hard drawing, and perfected the continuous cast process to provide a product that performs just as well, if not better, at a much lower cost." Manufacture of the alloy will come from NBM's Lorain, Ohio foundry and is currently available in 3/8" through 6" diameter solid bars. Samples of this material are readily available from NBM for testing and evaluations.
